Last week was very cold here in western Virginia. Highs were in the 20’s and low 30’s and the lows were in the teens. One day last week the wind-chill factor was zero degrees Fahrenheit. For us, that’s abnormally cold. Then on Monday the temperature jumps into the 70’s! I came home from work for lunch to eat with my family (as I do everyday) and the children were playing in the yard with t-shirts having a ball. Cami was playing catch with them and keeping them out of too much mischief and everyone was happy. It looked like Spring had arrived early. We quickly ate lunch then went right back outside. Cami and I grabbed our porch chairs and a book and sat outside reading while the children continued to play in the yard. Every couple of minutes we would look up and watch our boys digging, breaking things, and playing with sticks and smile. It was perhaps the best lunch break that I have had in months. I love moments like those, where all the world seems to slow down and I can just enjoy spending time with those that I love most. Everyone was happy and for a moment we didn’t have a care in the world.
Our lives should be filled with more moments like these because they are what make all of the trials and struggles in life and marriage worth it. When was the last time you had one of those moments with your spouse and children? If it’s been a while, and even if it hasn’t, try to slow down and just enjoy being with them. I promise that you will be glad you did.
